Jackie lived an incredibly full and eventful 80 years of life, with her heart always focused on her FAMILY until her last breath. When Jackie shared her life memories they were always attached to where her home was, as that is where her heart always lay.
Jackie’s memories started with her family home on Richmond Street. This was where she, her brothers Greg & Michael and her sister Margaret “Margie” shared their 600 sq foot home with their parents. The size of the home and how they all fit into it was never the point of the story, it was always about the joy of growing up in that neighborhood, the incredible experiences they had there and that all their friends wanted to come to their house as their large back yard was always the most fun spot on the block!
Then along came Jack, the love of Jackie’s life. After sweeping her off her feet and her making sure everyone knew he was off the market, they married and started a family right away giving her, as she noted the 2 greatest joys of her life, her sons Lincoln and Jason.
While raising their family the Menton’s moved around a bit so many of her friends and family have heard about all the highlights of living in Keswick, where she secretly learnt to drive without Jack knowing and of course at Chelsea Street where again the Menton’s home became the fun spot to be at. Even though there were many “secret” events held during the day when Jackie was working nothing slipped by her sharp mind when she came home!
Jack and Jackie then took their adventure on the road and moved up to Victoria Harbour where they built their new home and large party room (AKA- “the garage”). They shared their street with other family members (Bill & Carole with their children Karen, Ricky & Paul, Uncle Larry, Val and all the entire Connelly gang) and with friends who over the years become her family (Marilyn, Bob & Donna). Their home & party garage hosted everyone’s kids, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, siblings and many of their friends etc. who did the drive north to Victoria Harbour. Everyone knew when the garage door was open all were welcome, and that the laughter was just as loud as the music and lifetime memories being made. Jackie was always in the kitchen making sure the food kept rolling while keeping an eye on the garage to make sure she didn’t miss the action, or it get out of hand. Of course, she loved to sing & dance to the Golden Oldies, Rock and Roll tunes or to the songs that Jack and her family would play live, never getting mad that her assigned musical instrument was the “spoons”. The joy she found in those garage moments was endless and gave her stories to share for the rest of her life.
While living up north, Jack and Jackie had been surrogate grandparents to many kids and “finally” (her words) she became a grandmother of her own to Jake, Owen and Addison. Each one of them she cherished, supported and of course bragged about to anyone she could talk to. Her walls were continually lined with pictures of their milestones and achievements, and she made it her mission to drive down to see them whenever she could, of course NEVER on the 401.
As the kids grew Jack and Jackie decided to move closer to their son’s and moved into Milton where Jackie continued to make her world class pierogis and cabbage rolls while still enduring Jack’s obsession for Chinese food from their new local hot spot & M&M’s chicken wings. Her love for travel continued with her really enjoying their later years in Florida with many friends. It was in this home that Jackie lost the love of her life Jack and then her brother Michael. In true Jackie fashion she was down but never out and used her love and memories of them to give her the strength to continue to live life to the fullest on her own.
Over the next few years, Jackie travelled abroad with family and friends, created regular events with her sister Margie and her brother Greg, attended several family weddings, births, graduations and special celebrations, took vacations back to Victoria Harbour with her best friend Marilyn and became a Great Grandmother to Abbigail, Charlie and Lily (so yes more pictures on her walls and her adventure on Facebook began!). She also loved animals so equally embraced all her new “dog grandbabies” and even adventured into the barn to embrace her “horse baby” Lady! She was always on the go, if not out and about, she was doing sleep overs and adventure weekends for Addi or Abbigail, cleaning her home until it sparkled and making meals for others in her building to enjoy. She also embraced her faith deeply and found such joy in going to the church and being touched by the sermons.
The last chapter in Jackie’s life was when she moved into her new condo in Rockwood. She quickly adjusted to the town, dedicated one of the bedrooms into a crafts and fun room for all her Great Grandchildren, joined the community center, took some classes and built a group of friends in her building that she enjoyed cooking for and laughing with. Living around the corner from Jay & Kerrey made pop arounds to their home to swim in the pool, enjoy the gardens and share in family meals easy. She always valued having Lincoln, the Grandkids and her Great Grandkids join in, sharing moments with Karen at the office, nephews Brent and Todd when in town and meeting the extended family as it grew.
Jackie turned 80 last November. To her this was only a number and not something that would define her spirit. Her faith kept her strong. She would share that she knew where she was going, who was there waiting for her there and when it was her time, she would be happy to go. Jackie got her wish. She never had knowledge she was ill, she just decided to finally slow down, look her loved ones in the eye feeling their love and take her last breath.
Being the perpetual planner Jackie made all her own arrangements, which she entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home. A formal ceremony will be held in her honor on Saturday May 31st, 2025, a time of year she always felt was when life was beginning again. It will be held at her Church, The Sacred Heart (Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish - Rockwood, Ontario) at 11:00 am (arrival opening at 10:30), with a reception to follow (12-3pm).
Due to size of the church, we are requesting that should you be attending, that you please confirm and advise how many will be in attendance by emailing [email protected].
