When tomorrow starts without me,
don’t think we’re far apart,
for every time you think of me,
I’m right there in your heart.
August 9, 1968 – April 23, 2026
It is with heartbreaking sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, partner, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, Luisa McMaster, at the age of 57. Predeceased by her loving mother Luigia (2003), and loving father Lorenzo (2022), She leaves behind her beloved son, Kevin McMaster Jr., her partner Andy Detta, as well as extended family in Italy and Belgium.
Loving sister of Maria Di Reto, Angie Girgis and her husband Shawkey, Roberta Dametto and her husband Randy, and Enio Di Reto. She will be immensely missed by her nieces/nephew Emily-Ann (Matthew), Alijha (Michael), Matthew (Nada), Katryn (Jonathan), Santino and Alessia. Her great nieces/nephews, Elaina, Gabriel, Zara, Kiki, Atticus, Roman, Audrey and Mia will know that their one and only Zia Lu is now in heaven.
Luisa was a woman devoted to family, friends and her chosen vocation of nursing, specializing in geriatrics. Born and raised in Guelph, she cultivated her natural tendency to help and take care of people into a life-long career. From nursing at St. Joseph’s hospital, to joining Schlegel Villages (Riverside Glen/Arbour Trails) in 1998, Luisa served in many roles from RPN to Neighbourhood Co-ordinator to Director of Wellness. Luisa brought to her role excellent work ethic and most importantly her compassion, respect and genuine affection for the residents with whom she interacted on a daily basis. She greatly valued the unwavering support of her professional colleagues who she considered to be family.
Luisa was also a major cheerleader for her great nieces and nephews. She rarely missed a hockey game or a dance recital. Her presence at these events will be greatly missed.
We are grateful and appreciative of the care and support received from Dr. Burke, the nurses of the Guelph Renal Care Clinic and Dr. LoStracco, especially during these last very difficult months of illness. We also thank Dr. Chan for his meticulous care over the years.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada Foundation and The Kidney Foundation of Canada. Donation cards are available at the funeral home or online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com
Luisa’s journey has put into perspective the importance of organ donation. This is something that held a deep meaning in her journey and affects so many people.
