Born on September 17, 1940, in Guelph, Bob spent his life building not only a successful business, but a legacy of family, community service, and enduring friendships.
Bob was the beloved husband of Sharon Ireland (née McComb) for over 60 wonderful years. Together they raised a beautiful family and created a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. He was a proud and devoted father to Robert “Rob” Ireland (Nuala), Johnny “John” Ireland (Carrie Ann), and Bradley “Brad” Ireland (Tonya).
He was a cherished grandfather to Keegan Ireland (Maya), Jared Ireland, William Ireland, Eilish Ireland, Jack Ireland, Cooper Ireland, Brooke Ireland, Olivia Ireland, and Carla Ireland. He was predeceased in 2025 by his great-granddaughter, Sloan Ireland.
In 1965, Bob founded Guelph Tool and Die LTD. From his vision, strong determination, and steadfast integrity, the company continues today as Guelph Manufacturing Group under the leadership of his sons Rob and Brad, celebrating over 60 years of continuous operation. A consummate deal maker, Bob possessed a rare combination of sharp business acumen and genuine humility. His leadership earned him numerous honours, including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (1999), the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Award (1990), the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002), and the King Charles III Coronation Medal (2025), along with many other customer and community recognitions.
Bob was deeply committed to his community. A proud and active Rotarian for over 50 years, he was a Paul Harris Fellow and was widely recognized for his philanthropy and steadfast support of local healthcare and community initiatives. His faith was central to his life, and he was a devoted member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob embraced life fully. He was an avid collector of antique cars mostly from the 1920–1950 era, a passionate gardener, and a loyal card player who never missed an opportunity for friendly competition. Above all, he was a people person. Bob had a remarkable presence, strong yet gentle, confident yet humble and he made everyone feel valued and welcome.
