Born and raised in Guelph, Tom was the beloved son of the late Walter and Doreen (née Rest) Smith. He attended GCVI and spent the later part of his career with Kurtz Trucking — a role he truly enjoyed, along with the camaraderie of his coworkers. A passionate lover of music and a devoted father and grandfather, Tom’s greatest joys in life were his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son Jason (Stephanie MacIntyre), his grandchildren, Jake, Aviva, and Jax. Fondly remembered by his son Trevor (Becky and Garner).
Tom is now reunited in spirit with Shirley Bourdeau, the love of his life. He also leaves behind Shirley’s children: Mark Bourdeau, Bobby Bourdeau (Mary), Michele Fox (Dave), and Sherri Chattington (the late Chris), along with all of their children, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
He will be deeply missed by his siblings: Susan MacCulloch (the late Ken), Cathy Connelly (the late Bob), Eric (Tracy), and Elizabeth Gallagher (Jon). Tom was predeceased by his brother Wally and is survived by his sister-in-law Pat, as well as many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his kindness and sense of humour.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the first responders and the dedicated ICU staff at Guelph General Hospital — especially nurses Ailis, Katherine, Ben, and Nicole, as well as Dr. Schmidt and Dr. Ganapathy — for their exceptional care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to the Guelph Humane Society or to a charity of one’s choice. Donation cards are available at the funeral home (519-821-5077) or condolences online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com.
Tom’s quiet strength, gentle nature, and deep love for family will be remembered always.
