Wiesław Niemkiewicz

Devoted husband to Zofia, father to Michał (Abigail) and Magda (Petar), Dziadek to Lily, Tessa and Meika, he will be missed by all his friends and family, here and in Poland. He was predeceased by his parents Zofia and Mieczysław, and his brother Bogdan (Ewa).

Wiesław was born in the City of Radom, in postwar Poland. He graduated with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Łódź University of Technology, where he met his wife and partner for life, Zofia. After graduating, he moved back to Radom with his new family, where he quickly developed into a gifted engineer, first in metallurgy and later in automotive manufacturing. In 1986, he emigrated with his family to Italy, and in January 1988 came to Guelph in search of a better life for his family.

Soon he found work with W.C. Wood Company, where for over two decades he designed and built complicated tooling machines used in manufacturing of home appliances. Wiesław also found an outlet for his talent and fondness for building and fixing things in making wooden furniture and undertaking minor, and major, home improvement and repair projects, both for his family and for his friends. His work remained impeccable. In his retirement, he also enjoyed driving a school bus.

Wiesław was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed one. He had a great sense of humour. He was drawn to nature and water throughout his life, and enjoyed camping with family and friends, skating, cycling and kayaking. He was a proud Dziadek who loved his three granddaughters and enjoyed taking walks, playing games, drawing, or just making things out of play-doh with them.

He was loved. He is missed.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church (409 Paisley St, Guelph) at 10:30 am on Friday, May 15th, 2026, followed by interment at Marymount Cemetery (5400 Hwy 6, Guelph). Reception to follow at St. Joseph's Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
