With immense love and profound sorrow, we say goodbye to our beloved mom, Nanna, and Gigi, Ann Marie Murphy (née Travis), who passed away July 22, 2025 at the age of 88 years. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on March 3, 1937, to the late Frederick and Mary Travis, Ann Marie spent most of her life in New Brunswick where she attended St. Vincent’s Girls High School, worked in Human Resources at Kent Lines, and took many spontaneous shopping trips to Maine.
Surrounded by devoted family and a wide circle of close friends, Ann Marie lived a life rich in love, friendship, and joy. She loved her family and shared great happiness and pride in their accomplishments. She was a faithful friend, always ready with a listening ear, sincere advice, and an open heart. We will forever cherish her boundless optimism and the beautiful way she saw the world. Even in difficult times, Ann Marie’s outlook on life reminded us all to slow down, appreciate the little things, and hold tightly to the people we love.
She very much enjoyed a good book, often found reading for hours on end, along with her sweets, and the beach.
Ann Marie is survived by her three sons: Gregory (Keely Wallace), Donald (Kathy), and Paul (all of Halifax, NS), her former daughter-in-law, Hélène Moberg, with whom she remained close and former daughter-in-law, Julie Fullerton; grandchildren: Joseph Murphy (Emma McGuire) and Ella Murphy (Nick De Palma);Emily Portinari, Jessica Cosman (Justin) and Jack Murphy; and Connor Murphy (Morgan); great grandchildren: Teagan and Beau Murphy; beloved sister Alleyne Murphy; many nieces and nephews and many other family members as well as friends she considered family. In addition to her parents, Ann Marie was predeceased by her husband, Gary Murphy; and her brothers: John and Arthur Travis.
We will miss her infectious laugh and her ability to make anyone she meets feel loved and welcomed. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the IWK Foundation. Alternatively, the family invites all to take an opportunity to find comfort in the pages of a good book, take a trip to the ocean, and tell your loved ones how much you hold them dear.
A service will be held on Thursday, July 31st at 12:15pm at St. Ignatius Loyola Hall, 5 Bedford Street.
