Lavery, Anna “Aileen” - The family of Aileen Lavery announces with sadness her death on December 18th, 2014, in Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre. My beloved mother was born in Halifax on October 19th, 1917 to parents William and Elizabeth (Dean) Yetman shortly before the infamous Halifax Explosion. She lived a long , until recently, happy and full life. Mom loved her “Soaps” and especially “Murder She Wrote”, while always having a book near by. The most wonderful part of both our lives were her grandchildren, Brian and Beth Kirby. We lost our sweet Beth in 2004 from Cystic Fibrosis, from which, I believe, her Nanny never fully recovered. She was at her proudest when watching Brian graduate from St. Mary’s University. She was predeceased by her parents, and siblings, William, Jr., Francis, Freddie, Audrey, Gerald, Robert, Walter, May, Marjorie, Ceclia (at birth), and Raymond (at 7 years). Survived by her daughter, Judith Lavery, grandson Brian Kirby and brother, James (Mickey) Yetman and his wife Jeannette, both of whom were like parents to me. Mom is also survived by many nieces and nephews, particularly Raymond, Alannah, Paula, Michelle and (Megan and Julia). Mom’s faith was of utmost importance to her. She watched Television Mass everyday and prayed to St. Jude and St. Anthony daily. I am most grateful to Father Michael Grace for making several visits to the hospital to comfort Mom. There are many other nephews and nieces that she was close to, such as, Donald Doucette, Freddie and Hazel Desjardins, Mark Desjardins, his wife and his mother, Eva. So many, including teacher friends of mine who never forgot her even after I retired, Elizabeth Goodwin, Elaine Sharp and others. Finally, I must mention our “other family” who have helped us in every way possible. This family who called me Jirmam (Auntie) are the Selim-Omars, Jelal (Dilvin), Jamal, Jehad (deceased 2003), Emat (Melissa) Rehber, Rehder, Aziza, Halbin and Jihan. Parents: Zehr and Selim. Instead of flowers we request that you, if able, donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Canada in Beth’s memory or to Prostate Cancer Association as a special request. No visitation by request. Funeral service will take place in Saint Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliff Drive, Halifax, on Tuesday, December 23rd, at 10:30 am with reception to follow.
