Annette was born on November 1, 1934, in Morell Rear (Green Meadows), Prince Edward Island. In 1954, she graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Camp Hill Hospital and began her nursing career at the Victoria General Hospital until she returned to PEI in 1957, where she worked at the Charlottetown hospital until 1960. Over the next eight years, she married her beloved Tommy, moved from PEI to NB to NS, and had three adoring children along the journey. She made Halifax her home in 1968, but her love for PEI remained. Annette worked at Keddy’s Nursing Home until 1977, when she turned to Private Duty Nursing, specializing in palliative care until her retirement in 2002. Her life has been one of service, kindness, generosity, and love.
Annette found immense joy in the simpler things in life. Picking strawberries with her dear friend, Marie, spending time at her cottage and walking on Sea View (or any) beach, Saturday morning calls with her sister, Rita, or enjoying a cold beverage on her porch swing on a sunny Sunday afternoon with her children by her side. She had an infectious laugh and nothing pleased her more than sharing good times with family and friends. Annette was well-known for making “the best” homemade bread and biscuits, creating beautiful quilts, and knitting mittens and hats that she would hand out to strangers, spreading comfort and warmth to anyone in need. The grass didn’t grow green under her feet; she would try anything once, although she drew the line at skydiving. She had a thirst for learning and enjoyed taking various courses throughout her life, from taekwondo to reiki healing to public speaking. Given enough time, she thought she would have been a great golfer. She was an avid volunteer whenever and wherever needed. Annette did not judge and she rarely gave advice, but she listened to all with an open mind and heart, and gave her perspective if she thought it would be helpful. Above all else, she was the most loving, supportive, giving friend to all who had the privilege to know her. She will be sorely missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1PM on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at St. Cuthbert’s Catholic Church, St. Teresa, PEI. Interment in the parish cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Annette’s name to the Society of the Little Flower PEI.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caregivers from Bayshore Healthcare for their care and compassion, and to Cindy in particular, who brought so much happiness to Annette during every visit (especially on manicure and pedicure days). Finally, to her son, Peter, who enabled Annette to live safely and so happily in her home until the end. We are forever grateful.
