

Age 86, Halifax, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 11, 2015. She came to Canada in 1956. Antonia lived her life unceasingly devoted to her family. She nourished them with traditional Sicilian dishes from her Italian homeland. Her kitchen never closed. Countless times she would provide meals for her husband when he came home late after long days concreate finishing. She managed to maintain her household spotless, even in a home of all males. She was an accomplished seamstress, working many years in the fur business. Many happy days were spent working side-by-side with her sister. She tirelessly accompanied her husband through his times of illness and recovery. She was always a caring and gentle lady.
She is survived by her husband, Benedetto LoPresti; sons Marco (Mirella), Nick (fiancée Marie) and Umberto (Margaret); and grandsons Alessandro and Ben. Antonia is predeceased by her parents, Nicola and Nicoletta (Contorno) Sciortino; and her younger sisters, Maria Colaiacovo and Casimira Trentacoste.
Visitation will take place at St. Benedict church, 45 Radcliffe Dr., Halifax, on Friday, January 16, 6-8 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Benedict on Saturday, January 17, 10 am. Reception to follow. Burial will take place after the reception at Fairview Cemetery, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations in Antonia’s name may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or charity of choice. Many special thanks to Gail Jollimore, Dr. Trixie Gregoire, the Red Cross home caregivers, and the VON for their support and care.
