Barrie "Woody" Woodworth, 82, died on Sunday, June 1, after a brief illness. A proud, Haligonian, Barrie was the beloved husband of Estella (Ross) Woodworth for almost 59 years. Barrie is also survived by his daughters Sarah Woodworth (Dave Williamson) of London, ON and Amy Woodworth of Ancaster, ON., as well as his cherished grandsons, Marcus and Eric. The son of Dora (Davis) and Eric Woodworth, Barrie was educated in Halifax schools — Sir Charles Tupper, Cornwallis and Queen Elizabeth High — and concluded his career as Assistant Director of Assessment for the City of Halifax. Barrie was an avid (some friends said “mean”) tennis player with a quick wit. He loved rock and roll music from the ‘70s and ‘80s. He was a longtime member of the Waegwoltic Club, and a loyal, if tortured, supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs and a fan of the New York Giants. He was a long-time swimming volunteer and barbecue Grill Master for the annual Danny Gallivan Cystic Fibrosis Golf Tournament. Visitation will be at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, on Friday, June 6 from 6-8 pm. The funeral, also at Snow’s, will be on Saturday at 10 am. The family thanks all the doctors, nurses and other members of the palliative care team at Victoria General Hospital. Donations in Barrie's memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the VG Hospital.
