Dr. Bernard Price

He moved to Canada from England in 1967 and practiced family medicine and as an anesthesiologist at the Blanchard-Fraser Memorial Hospital in Kentville, Nova Scotia until 1988. He was a graduate of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and completed graduate studies in anesthesiology. In 2000 he moved to Halifax with his wife to be close to their daughter Lorna.

Dr. Price worked for the British Colonial Service from 1950 until 1967. He served in Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Seychelles.

He was a member of St. James Anglican Church in Kentville and became a member of St. Mathias Anglican Church when they moved to Halifax. He was Parish Warden at St. Mathias in 2003 and had been a member of the Parish Council at both St. Mathias and St. James churches.

He is survived by his wife Edith Teresa (nee Doddrell), his daughter Lorna Irene Winstanley Wanzel (nee Price), his son in law John Grant Wanzel; two sisters Joan Gray and Rena Lacey in England; two grandsons Jean Paul Wanzel and Jean Mark Wanzel and their wives Christine (Duchesne), Julie (Ward) and his grand-daughter Emma Judith Skeete (nee Wanzel), Emma’s husband Isaac Skeete and three great grandsons James Grant Wanzel, Jacob Piers and Jason William Wanzel.

He was predeceased by his brother Guy and sister Zena. He has many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He will be remembered fondly by his many family members and friends as an extremely caring and compassionate person. He worked many long hours, made house calls and was greatly loved by his patients. He loved his work and was respected by his colleagues.

Visitation will be held on Saturday November 27th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral service will be held at St. Mathias Anglican Church on the corner of Windsor Street and Chebucto Road, Halifax on Sunday November 28th at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Bill Shepard officiating.
