It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Betty (Dorey) Dauphinee, of Halifax, on March 23, 2022. She was 92. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, George Dauphinee, of Halifax, and parents, Charles Dorey, and Bertha (Dauphinee) Dorey, of Glen Haven, St. Margaret’s Bay, N.S.
Betty is survived by devoted son, Robert (Rob) Dauphinee, his wife, Janice Landry, and their daughter, Laura Dauphinee, of Halifax. “Nana Betty” adored Laura. The sun rose and set on her only grandchild. Nana Betty was a major contributor to helping raise Laura into the beautiful young woman she has become today. Betty was staunchly proud of family accomplishments.
Betty is also survived by sister, Joan (Dorey) Taphouse, (the late Norman Taphouse), of Dartmouth, N.S., nephew Christopher Booth, partner Wendy Bird, and Joan’s grandchildren, Bryanna, and Kailey Booth, of Gatineau, Que., as well as Betty’s niece, Shirley Anne MacDonald, and husband, Paul MacDonald, of Dartmouth, N.S.
Betty loved music and dancing. She and George lit up the dance floor at the iconic Jubilee Boat Club. She especially loved country music and accompanied Rob to Nashville for a trip-of-a-lifetime. Betty enjoyed sports, especially Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday nights. Having lived in Montreal with George, she was a Montreal Canadians fan.
The family will gratefully accept guests at a visitation on March 30, 2022, from 3-6pm, at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Betty’s funeral will take place March 31, 2022, at 10am, in the chapel of JA Snow Funeral Home, with Father Mark Marshall officiating.
Betty’s loved ones would like to thank Dr. Arsenault and the nursing staff, floor 8.2, at the QE2 Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, for the dutiful care Betty received during her final days.
Betty’s husband, George, died April 6, 1982. We, her family, take great comfort in knowing they have been reunited after nearly four decades. We know in our hearts the couple is swirling around a dance floor “up there” in each others’ loving arms.
