Cara was born to Margaret (nee Foley) and Tom McCormack on October 25, 1976, in Corner Brook, NL. They named her Cara Marie - a younger sister to Michaelyn; eventually a big sister to Andrew. And we must include mention of the family dog - a cocker spaniel named Sandy.
Cara’s childhood was spent with close aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and grandparents. There were long summer days at the beach, memorable trips to Grand Falls, PEI, Montreal, Ottawa and Florida, and the many celebrations for birthdays and special occasions.
During her high school days, she developed lifelong friendship bonds that continued to strengthen into adulthood. Cara’s friends always showed up when it mattered most. Those friendships were priceless to her in so many ways.
She was funny and quick to call out the obvious. She was adventurous. She tried skydiving, parasailing, flying over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter and didn’t shy away from the most intense ride at a theme park.
Cara studied business with a focus on marketing at Dalhousie University in Halifax. The professional years that followed her graduation were spent at advertising agencies in different marketing and account executive roles. She made friends who came to feel like family. She would often reminisce about those early career days with immense fondness. She worked hard. She had fun. She met a guy. Cara met her love, Albert Ianni, while they were working together at the same advertising agency in Halifax. After dating for some time, Cara met Albert’s parents, Rita and Joe, his brother Andy, sister Stacey, and their families, at their home in Ontario, where Albert grew up. Albert’s family loved her as much as she loved them. When they returned to Halifax from that visit, Cara remarked on how much delicious, authentic Italian food she was served and had eaten. No doubt Rita’s pizza sealed the deal. They got married in September 2008.
Jack was first to call her “mommy.” Then came Olivia. From the moment they were born, Cara was devoted to them and being mom. And she was a natural. She just had those instincts and had them since she was a child. She gave her children as much love as any human possibly could. They were her precious gifts in life. She is forever etched in them.
Cara did life her way. The strength, determination and courage she showed to her family over the past few years has been tremendous. The experiences shared and memories made - everlasting. The love that grew – enormous.
Cara lived fully. She loved fully. And she will be missed, very, very much.
