Catherine Giles

Giles (Burke), Catherine – Age 86 - August 1, 1927 – August 24, 2013. It is with great sadness that Catherine’s family announce her passing on August 24, 2013, at Northwood Manor. She was born in Halifax, daughter of the late Ambrose and Mary Elizabeth (Swyers) Burke and the wife of the late Charles Theodore Giles. She enjoyed life to the fullest, including travelling, going to the casino, and going to bingo with her best friend/sister, Margaret. She enjoyed painting and writing poetry. She is survived by sons John (Donna), Herring Cove, Geary, Halifax; daughters, Catherine (DeeDee), Halifax, Charleen (Peter) Whitehead, Ketch Harbour; grandchildren, Terri-Lynn & Steven Giles, Marc & Chantal Lacroix, Jenna & Matthew Whitehead; great grandchildren, Amy, John & Braden, Winter & William; and 5 great great grandchildren . She is also survived by her brother Philip Burke of Halifax. She was predeceased by sisters, Myrtle Burke, Mary Kervin and Margaret Clark; brother, Jerome Burke (Burkie), and also by her beloved son Philip Giles (1951 – 1964). Visitation will be held Friday August 30 from 12 – 2 pm with a service immediately following at 2 pm in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, B3S 0E1 (455-0531). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
