It is with great sadness and heavy broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Dot Murphy who passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Parkstone Enhanced Care with family by her side. Our loss can never be replaced but her love can never be lost.
Mom was born in Colliers, Conception Bay on May 1st, 1937 and resided for many years in Labrador City until retirement when they moved to Lower Sackville, NS. Upon dad’s passing almost four years ago, she moved into Parkstone Enhanced Care.
Our mom was an amazing, kind, caring woman who was so full of life and fun and was game for anything! In her early years in Labrador City, she cared for many children in her home. Later, she cleaned the Constabulary Building and the Arts and Culture Center. While she cleaned the constabulary building, she also liked to cook for the staff where she would cook jigs dinner for them as well. And never did anyone go without her famous homemade bread! In Labrador City, mom was also played in card clubs and was part of the ladies’ auxiliary. In mom’s later years, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but our beautiful mother dealt with this disease with such courage and dignity while keeping her sense of humour until the end.
Our mother leaves to mourn her children, Rachael (Jeff Baker], Kelly (Kirby Dumaresque], Sean (Angelique Murphy], Laurie Murphy (Erica Arnoldin] and Gerard Murphy. Mom’s grandchildren, Caitlynn and Mason Baker, Andrew and Mackenzie Dumaresque, Oliver and Maya Murphy and Samuel and Cameron Murphy are also left in sadness to mourn their grandmother. She has also left behind her two sisters, Noreen Whelan and Elizabeth Woodford and her brother Dennis Conway. And all the wonderful Murphy’s who have been so kind to always think of our mother and to always be there offering words of encouragement and support.
We want to thank our families and friends for all the help and support throughout this journey. We also want to thank the staff at Parkstone on Point Pleasant Way and Evan Hall from the bottom of our hearts. Your compassion throughout was such a blessing to mom and to our family. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association.
