Steeped in sorrow the family and friends of Christopher (Chris) Perks sadly announce the death of their partner, son, brother and friend on March 25 in a workplace accident.
The ripples cast by Chris during his far too short life have deeply touched everyone who knew him. His laugh, his personality, his stories, and his love for everyone he met filled every room he entered. His energy was infectious to those around him, and he attacked every challenge or opportunity with passion.
Any Taekwondo student who may have been intimidated by this huge, loud man would soon learn to love him for his gentle soul. Chris was a dedicated instructor who personally invested himself in his student’s growth and goals.
Any neighbour who needed a helping hand or something fixed could always count on Chris to be there. Anyone in need would not be surprised to see Chris at their side, carrying the weight of two. No matter the situation, he had a way about him that made every moment better. All this and much more carried out with a deep humility that commanded respect and fostered the love of all who knew him.
If one’s life is defined by stories – stories of love and laughter, stories of care and concern for others, stories of passion and optimism – then Chris’ life is a story that will be told for eternity. Known for his loud and infectious laugh, his larger-than-life personality and his kind and giving heart, Chris’s death has left a very large hole in the lives of a great many people.
Chris is survived by his father Ron, brother Dave, and the love of his life, Katherine (Katie) Berakos, innumerable friends, extended family and colleagues.
A celebration of Chris’ life will be held at Serpent Brewing in Spryfield on April 24th from 2-6pm. Friends and family are encouraged to drop in and share memories, stories and grab a beer in Chris’ memory. In lieu of flowers, donations in Chris’ memory can be made to KidSport Nova Scotia.
