Paul, Clyde A., K.C. B.Comm, LL.B. (also known as Tykie) passed away at the QEII - Halifax Infirmary Site on April 3, 2026 at the age of 78. He was the son of the late Whalen and Helen (Westhaver) Paul. Clyde received a Degree in Commerce and then earned his Law Degree at Dalhousie University, graduating in 1973. Clyde then joined the late Premier John Buchanan’s firm, of which he became his successor. He established Clyde A. Paul & Associates and would have completed 53 years of practice this June. Clyde lived a very humble life and was proud to support his community and was known for his kindness and generosity, never expecting anything in return. Clyde was recognized for his leadership, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to others throughout his career and his extensive volunteer work. From 1973 to the time of his death, Clyde served as King Lion, Secretary, Treasurer, and Legal Counsel for AFR Lions; District Governor for NS 1987-1988; a founder of Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides; and was a recipient of a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Clyde served on several boards. He was a member of The Halifax Natal Day Committee for over 40 years, including Chair position (2005-2010 - the most consecutive years) and the Marshall of the Natal Day Parade; Chair of Building Futures and recently retired as Chair of Spryfield Business District Commission. Clyde also was a very long term member of the Progressive Conservative Party of N.S. in which he held many positions. Clyde loved to travel and his volunteer time with the Lions gave him the opportunity to travel the world. He and Pat were able to go to Australia, Japan and China. He loved to travel to Florida with his wife and dear friends Nancy & Neville King, and recently enjoyed a bucket list trip on the Rocky Mountaineer (Banff to Vancouver). His love for golf remained even when his health didn’t allow him to play, but he still enjoyed his membership at Ashburn Golf Club playing crib, chatting with members, and hosting social events. One of his favorite Ashburn events was playing in the Danny Gallivan Tournaments. Clyde was an avid reader and enjoyed watching old shows and movies. In his early years, his hobbies were fishing, barrel racing at the Windsor Exhibition, and fly tying (having a show on TV and owning the Mayflower Fly Tackle Shop on Agricola St.). Clyde was a lover of animals, and although he owned an Arabian horse, his cats were his fur babies. One of his favorite festivals was Robbie Burns, complete with a haggis meal. Clyde will be missed by all the people whose lives he has touched, but especially his loyal staff whom he considered family. Clyde is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, A. Patricia (Amirault) Paul; half-sisters; Beverley Elliott, Cathy Ackles, Helen Harris, half-brother; Tim (Mary) Ackles all of Halifax and half-brother Tom (Carrie-Lynn) Ackles of Yarmouth. In addition to his parents, Clyde was predeceased by his siblings: C. Albert (Eileen) Paul and Ada (Ronald) Ackles. His wake will be Monday, April 20, 2026, 2-4 and 6-8 pm, with a Lions Memorial Service at 6:00 pm, at J. A. Snow Funeral Home – 339 Lacewood Dr. Halifax. A Funeral Service will be held at Stella Maris Church, 14 St. Michael’s Avenue on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow at the Spryfield Lions Rink. Donations in Clyde’s memory may be made to Lions Club International Foundation, Dog Guides of Canada or Building Futures.
