
Constance and her identical twin sister Catherine, were born in Springhill, Nova Scotia on September 24, 1925 to parents Mary and Charles Huntley. The twins “Connie” and “Kit”, along with older siblings Rufus, Francis and Peggy, spent their childhood years in the Town of Parrsboro. Later, along with Kit, she attended Mount Allison Academy for Girls, followed by studies at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick.
Her working career began with secretarial work at a brokerage in Montreal. She married Lieutenant George Somers of the Royal Canadian Navy and had two children, George Jr. and John. After postings in Ottawa and Montreal the family moved to Halifax. She worked as a secretary at the nearby Grosvenor Wentworth School, and was an active member of the congregation of St. Peters Anglican Church. She always maintained her connection with her home town of Parrsboro, spending summers at the cottage and as a long-time member of the Parrsboro Golf Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Somers, and siblings Rufus, Francis, Peggy and Catherine. She will be missed by George and family; Leslie, Meghan and Anne and her husband Gustavo, and John and family; Shawna, Conrad, Ellen and her husband Brad, Lauren and her partner Wilder, and great grandchildren Jonah and Evan. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church at 3 Dakin Drive in Rockingham. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
