Corinne passed away peacefully in hospital in Halifax on February 27, 2020 surrounded by family. Born in Sydney on July 15, 1956, to Margaret Muise (nee Barrington) and the late Gerald (Jerry) Muise, Corinne lived most of her life in Halifax, and was a graduate of Dalhousie University and Halifax West High School.
Corinne was diagnosed with neurosarcoidosis 23 years ago and fought the disease and its many complications with grace and dignity. With the excellent medical support from Dr Allan Purdy, neurologist and her caring family physician Dr Judith MacNeil, Corinne was able to manage every medical complication that she faced. She refused to let the disease define her or prevent her from living her best life. Corinne was strong, brave, smart, and most importantly kind to a fault. You could always count on Corinne to know the right thing to say or do to bring comfort to others. Few understood how much pain she endured everyday. To cope with the pain, she learned to make jewellery, which just added to the talents of sewing, creating, decorating and hosting parties and showers. Corinne made the world a more beautiful place.
Corinne is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Richard Harland, daughter Laura (Stu) Desprey, and son Charles (Katie) Harland. Her life was brighter any time she spoke of or was in the presence of her two precious grandchildren Amelia (4) and Samuel (almost 2) Desprey. Sadly she didn’t get to meet the newest grandchild Charlotte Desprey who was born on February 26th. In addition to her mother, she is survived by sister Joan Muise Gavin, and brother Jim Muise, sister’s in law Sandra (David Yetman) Johnson, Michele Harland, Annette (Brian Peer) Harland. Corinne was a special aunt to Annie Gavin, Jim (Rachel) Gavin, Morgan (Marc) Muise, Cory (Megen) John-son, Becky (Jeff) Lytle, Laura (Jeff) Little, Andrea (Dan) Caux, Kate Harland, Emily Harland, Emma Peer, Ben (Jordan) Peer, and great nephews Owen and Parker Lytle and Zoey Caux. Besides her father, Corinne was predeceased by her brother Leslie Muise, and in-laws Sharon and Robert Harland. In addition, Corinne will be missed by her many Muise and Barrington cousins, uncles and aunts, especially her beloved uncle and godfather Charlie Barrington, from Northside East Bay where her family vacationed every summer.
Corinne’s family would like to thank the many people who supported and cared for her during the last few years including the excellent daily care from the VON nurses and LPN’s, all of her specialist doctors and their wonderful support staff, Access-a-Bus drivers and dispatch and the many pharmacists along the way. In her last days, Corinne received terrific care in the ICU 5.2 at the QEII. The family would like donations in lieu of flowers to be made to the QE2foundation.ca directed in Corinne’s memory specifically to the ICU for equipment and training. (donation line 1-902-334-1546)
Visitation will be Sunday, March 8th, 6pm to 9 pm at J A Snow Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive and the funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 9th 10:30 am at St Benedict’s Parish 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax.
