Corinne was smart, creative, compassionate and resourceful. The good ones pass way too soon. May the memories of the good times carry you through the other times.

I had the honour and pleasure of knowing Corrine and looked forward to visiting her when she was on my work list.  She was a brave lady who’s heartfelt kindness touched everyone who met her. She was so very proud of her grandchildren and we shared stories and pictures as grandparents. The world is missing a loving heart that had room for everyone. 

I first met Corinne in the early 90's when Laura and I got treatment together at the Environmental Medicine Clinic at the VG Hospital, had contact when she co-founded and ran the Back to Basics Foods Coop to make healthy food affordable back when it wasn't easily accessible, and heard of her over the years from our mutual friend Karen Robinson as they founded CASLE – Canadians for A Safe Learning and made tremendous changes in the indoor air quality in schools.  Corinne's style and intelligence made her someone you wanted on your team and she contributed hugely to improved health for her children and for everyone's children. As she became ill she became even more of a hero to me as I would hear of her grace and courage in finding ways to contribute to spreading love and making the world a better place, no matter her challenges.

In recent years, we have had many encounters at church. Our chats were such a blessing to me, particularly as I struggle with some chronic illnesses myself. Corinne's challenges were so much greater than mine but she lived every minute of her life fuelled by love most of all for her family and for all she encountered. She lived with faith, love, bravery, grace and beauty.  She will be an inspiration for me to the end of my days.

Since I was ill, and possibly contagious,  I was sad to miss the funeral. I heard it was beautiful, as befits our dear Corinne. 

I am thinking of you Margaret, Richard, Laura, Charles and all as we go forward.  Prayers continue with total assurance that love lives on.

I'm so sorry to hear of Corinne's passing.   I just found out now too late for me to make it to the service.  Corinne was a very special lady. We had some wonderful talks.   My thoughts are with all her family at this very sad time.

so sorry to hear of Corinnes passing.  Unfortunately missed the funeral by one day.  :-( . as I just saw notice now.  Memories of meeting Corinne for the first time with Richard....  having Richard and Corinne over for dinner so Richard could photograph our Jillian when she was a baby... Visiting Corinne in hospital when both you Laura and Charles were born.  You Laura visiting with my girls when they were young before Charles came along. :-)  . Corinne had the softest voice when she spoke and I do not recall ever hearing her speak harsh or loud to anyone. :-)   Prayers have already been put out for  Your mom Laura and Charles as well as your dad for his healing...  Richard , you had a long life together and along with all the hardships of an illness, I know , with the joys of being a father and grandfather,  you and Corinne had many fun times too.   love and hugs......... joan smith 


Richard,Laura and Charles ,we were so sorry to hear of Corrine’s passing.She was a very special lady,  an angel here on earth.She took care of our friend Muriel when she was going through a very difficult time. She made her feel very secure at probably the most difficult insecure time in her life. Corrine made all the tenants in her building feel like they had found a new family. She took care of all of them ,a lot of the time forgetting about her own illness.Corrine will surely be missed by all but heaven must have needed a special angel and God called her home. Your fond memories will help you get through this most difficult time .Our son is an AAB driver and he used to pick Corrine up from time to time .On the days he picked her up he would always call me and reconfirm that she was the most positive sweet lady he had ever has the pleasure to meet.We are unable to make the service but you and your families will be in our thoughts and prayers.Take care of each other.Barry and Heather Tobin

When Corinne was on my work for the day through VON, I always knew it would be a good day. She could talk like no other, on all topics. We would share stories of our grandchildren. Out would come the  ipad with all of the pictures. She was so proud of them. I could have stayed all day. I started saving her till last so I did not have rush out. Corinne was an amazing lady. Each day was a new challenge  for her but she faced it with dignity and perseverance. She will be missed

         Please accept our condolences on Corinne's passing.  We remember you and all the family when we were neighbours in Bridgeview.  However, Corinne was close to us when we had her baby sit when she was in her early teens.  We also saw her at Church over the years.  Lorraine was talking to her late last year at the Lacewood Shopping Plaza.

  We are currently out of the country and will not be able to attend her service.  She will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Corinne was the Keynote Speaker at a Nursing Foot Care Conference that I was involved with maybe 10 or more years ago. She was articulate, encouraging and touched every heart in the room that day. She reminded each of us why we'd gone into nursing in the first place and encouraged us to want to be better. I'd been very aware of Canadians for a Safe Learning Environment (CASLE) for years and had no idea that she was a founding member until she spoke that day. We had all kinds of things and people in common. I think that Corinne had a lot in common with a lot of people. She touched hearts easily with the beautiful light and love that she had. Thank you for your care and how you lived while you were on this earth Corinne. My condolences to your wonderful family whom you love so much.

We first met Corinne at a church breakfast where we spoke about The Marguerite Centre, a residence and program for women recovering from Addictions and Abuse.  Corinne wanted to volunteer but wondered if she would be the "right fit."  Shortly after our contact, she began volunteering at The Centre teaching the residents how to make jewellery.  

The women made precious gifts for their children and other family members.  What was even more valuable to the women, however, was the positive effect Corinne had on their self esteem.   For example,  Corinne took individual pictures of them which they treasured and were so proud to offer to their families.

The residents looked forward to every visit Corinne made to The Centre.  Each visit meant that she would be giving them,  not only a compassionate and listening ear, but an opportunity to once again be creative and make personal gifts for their loved ones. In fact days before she died Corinne was wondering how she could  continue her work with the women.

Corinne had a generous heart and a volunteer spirit.  It was a blessing and privilege to know her.

To Richard, Marg, Laura, Charles, Joan, Jimmy, and grandchildren, we are very sorry for your loss.  Corinne was one of the few people I considered a role model.  She exuded kindness and was always willing to reach out and help anyone at any time.  She was a dear friend. 

Corinne lived an inspired and inspiring life.  She always seemed to be about unconditional love…. love that seemed to go out in all directions.  Life is a journey, full of big and small endings.  Along the way, if we are lucky, we learn to love more and more.  If we are very fortunate, like Corinne, we extend that love at every encounter.  And now from friends and family, that love is being returned… exactly when it is needed most. 

The love we have for Corinne, and she has for us continues as long as we keep living and loving.  Death leaves heartache, but love makes memories that last forever.  Hellen Keller said, "All that we love deeply becomes part of us." What a gift Corinne leaves with us.

Memories can bring joy and sadness, but mostly, I think they bring joy. Although I’ve known Corinne for a long time, the times that come to mind are the university days.  

Corinne was more of a people person than a party person.  But there were those rare times when she would be out for the evening with lots of friends, with all of us meandering home late at night.  Out of the corner of her eye and well in the distance she spots someone in “difficulty”, and she takes a portion of the group over to look after that person.  That was Corinne.  

And now, I hear this old song from earlier that night.  I hear it in her voice and with new meaning.  

“Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise, and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all”

That was Corinne.  Good night, dear friend.

Richard and Laura and Charles, Marie and I were devastated to learn this morning of Corinne's death.  She was truly an awesome lady. Among many memories I have of her, one of them is the day we got married. It was to be a simple wedding and I was making sandwiches before going to marry Marie, and I was very nervous. Corinne soon took me in hand and took charge. No telling what would have been in those sandwiches if I had continued! I am unable to be at the service, as I am still practicably immobile after a really bad fall, but our earnest prayers are with you all. Love, John and Marie.

To Richard, Laura and Charles.  I was so sad to hear about Corinne the other day.  She touched so many of our lives in so many ways.  I was unable to be in touch as I would have liked due to our own family circumstances, but I often thought of her and your family.  Love and prayers at this very difficult time for you all. I had the pleasure of meeting Corinne at the VG MDU several years ago. She was so kind and cheerful, no matter what. She was always interested in how you were doing. She even sent me a card when I was not doing well.  She was a true original and will be greatly missed. I am glad her struggle is over. Condolences to her family and many friends.

She was our late sister Leslie’s best friend, so much so, “Corny” was her maid of honour.  I’m sad for all the trials and tribulations she faced, but so proud of her endurance, love and grace. Dear Richard, Margaret, Charles, Laura, Joan, and close family I have not met,

I am so very sorry to hear this news.  I can’t imagine what you are going through. Corinne was truly special. 
I hope you don’t mind if I take a moment to help people who have only known Corinne since she became ill to learn about something she did before illness took over. Five of us started an organization called CASLE (Canadians for A Safe Learning Environment) in the early ‘90s. We were parents who saw that schools were making children and staff sick. Corinne’s wisdom, determination and resourcefulness led the way. Her sunny personality, compassion, and tremendous sense of humour bolstered many of us when we needed it. Our organization became a leader provincially and nationally. Corinne was an essential founder of CASLE and active worker for years, shaping the organization as we earned strong partnerships with governments and decision-makers and changed schools for the better. Without her, CASLE and its accomplishments might never have happened.  
I have included a picture of Corinne and three of CASLE's seven board members who were gathering to prepare to close CASLE in 2017, after 25 successful years. 
We will miss the bright light that was Corinne. 

My thoughts and prayers and tears are with each of you.

When I think of Corinne, I see her beautiful smile and I remember what a wonderful, giving person she was. She exuded beauty; the beauty of life, that of a loving mother, a devoted wife, an amazing grandmother, and a loyal and generous friend. She was a fantastic woman. My heart breaks that she had to leave us so soon. She touched many hearts along the way and she will be missed dearly. The words of this hymn speak to her life; “If I can help somebody along the way, then my living will not be in vain.” God comfort and bless you at this difficult and sad time.
