

Welsh, Cyril Thomas Sr. - 77 of Bayside passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011, 4:45 a.m. in the Pallative Care Unit, VG, Halifax with his granddaughter Merissa by his side. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Thomas and Helena (Brown) Welsh. Cyril served in the Canadian Armed Forces for many years. He joined the Lord Strathcona Horse armored regiment during the Korean War conflict and also served with the 8th Canadian Hassars armored core in Germany. He was a member of the UN Peacekeeping Forces in the Middle East in 1964-65. He drove the school bus for Halifax County for 28 years and drove three generations of children on the Prospect Road. He loved to fish, hunt, go boating and spend time with his grandchildren and family. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Jean (Christian) of 54 years; sons, Cyril (Lauretta), Cape Breton; Roy (Greenwood); “like a son” Fred (Stacey) Walsh; daughter, Pamela (Maurice) Barkhouse, Bayside; brothers, Richard; Thomas (Karen); Denny (Karen); sisters, Emma; Lorraine, and Marg (Harry). Cyril will be sadly missed by his grandchildren: Merissa, Annabelle, Alexander, Kayla, Sarah and “like a grandson”, Leo (Melissa) and his many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by brothers: Victor, Reg, Fred, Donnie, Ronnie and his parents. Arrangements are under the care of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (902) 455-0531 where visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10th, from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Service will be held on Friday, March 11th at 2 p.m. at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, Hatchet Lake with Rev. Lisa Vaughn as officiating clergy. Cremation has taken place. Burial at a later date. The family would like to thank the VONs especially Tina and Maureen and the Continuing Care Assistant Janet for the excellent care they gave to Cyril during his last three months of illness as well as the Pallative Care Nurses at the VG. Thank you to his family and friends who supported his wife, Jean, during this difficult time.
