

Baker, David Malcolm,"Dave", PEng, Halifax, 1924-2010. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of David M. Baker. He passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary on November 17, 2010. Born in Yarmouth, N.S., he was the son of the late Karl W. Baker & Margaret (Polly) Baker.David graduated from Acadia University with pre-Engineering Degree in 1947, & Nova Scotia Technical University with Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1952 . His professional life encompassed time with Minas Basin Pulp &
Paper, (Keyes Fibre, Hantsport), Petrofina, & Federal Business Development Bank. At the age of 17, he enlisted with the Merchant Navy, serving overseas in the Atlantic, Pacific, & Mediterranean Middle East War Zones. He was a life member of APENS, Free Mason, Canadian Naval Reserve, & Life Member of Armdale Yacht Club. He shared his life long love of the water and sailing with his family and friends, taking every opportunity to cruise the Northwest Arm and the Halifax Harbour. When not sailing, he enjoyed woodworking, refinishing antiques, and building sailing prams for his grandchildren. He is survived his wife of 61 years, Patricia (Boyd), sons Karl, Gregory (Nancy Morrison),daughters Elaine (Stuart Schnare), Margaret (William LaValley) Anne; 9 grandchildren :Jesleine, David, Philip, & James Baker; Alison Baker; Andrew & Peter Schnare; Megan & Matthew Irons; 2 step grandchildren, Marc Gibbon & Logan LaValley, sisters Elizabeth Irvine, Ottawa, Nancy Ripley, Owen Sound, & Mary (Dick) MacLean, Montague, and many
nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010, 2 pm at Bethany
United Church, 7171 Clinton Ave., Rev. Fred Snyder and Rev.Vincent Ihasz officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David's memory to Parkinson's Society, Maritime Region, Bethany United Church, QEII Hospital Foundation, or charity of choiceA special thank you to the staff of QEII floor 7.3, & Drs. Kirby, Fleetwood, & Mallery.
