It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, Dennis Gallagher, peacefully at home on Saturday January 13. He was predeceased by Anne Marie his loving wife of 54 years. Surviving children are Rodden (Beth), and Carmen, both of Halifax, and Larry (Ming) Vernon Ontario. Dennis worked in shipbuilding his whole life, starting with his apprenticeship at the Fleming and Ferguson Yard in Paisley Scotland. After leaving there, he worked up and down the Clyde including the John Brown yard working on the Queen Elizabeth II.
After immigrating to Canada in July 1972, he joined Halifax shipyard building the Sedco semi-submersible oil rigs. He worked at the many incarnations of Halifax shipyards also with Woodside Fabricators, Modern Iron Works among others, before retiring from Halifax Shipyard in 2002.
There will be a service on Tuesday January 23 at 2:00 PM at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 399 Lacewood Drive Halifax. A reception will follow at Beth and Rodden’s.
