Derek William Henry Pineo was born on July 26, 1973 at the IWK Grace Memorial Hospital for Children in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Earl and Reena (Wyer) Pineo. Derek grew up in Fall River, N.S and graduated from C.P. Allen High School in Bedford. He also studied French Immersion at the University of St. Anne’s, and attended Scotia Career Academy where he completed a course as a Corrections Officer.
Derek married Natasha Dawn Tiffeny Campbell on May 24, 2003 at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church in Fall River, Nova Scotia. Together they were blessed with three beautiful children, Novalea, Kayleb and Ocean.
Derek followed his dream and five years ago in August 2007 he graduated from the RCMP Academy in Regina. He spent five years stationed at the Nipawin Detachment serving as a general duty constable, and on June 29, 2012 he transferred to the Wilkie Detachment.
Derek loved life. He was a people person, a kind-hearted, loving and giving man. He was a wonderful husband; loving father, brother and son that anyone would love to call their own. He loved NASCAR racing, winemaking, movies, camping, fishing, hunting and spending time with his wife and children. He spent most of his 38 years on a dirt bike, an ATV, or a snowmobile, and generated such humour that we all thought he should have been on stage. He dedicated his life to others and Buffalo Taxi surely was testimony enough to that.
During his five years in Nipawin, he served as the RCMP School Liaison Officer for Central Park Elementary School, served on the P.A.R.T.Y Program committee, and was instrumental in organizing the Father’s Day Car Show and Shine in June.
Derek was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Muriel and Robert Wyer, Henry and Anne Pineo, his aunts Marion Dillman and Barbara Malloy-Pineo, his uncle and godfather George Pineo all of Shubenacadie, N.S., and Natasha’s grandmother Melinda Campbell.
Derek is survived by his loving wife Natasha and children: Novalea, Kayleb and Ocean; his parents Earl & Reena Pineo; brother Greg (Karen), their daughters Adriana, Erika, and Olyvia; sister Cynthia (John) Higgins, their daughters Rose and Hope; sister Angelia (Kevin) Wilson, their daughters Alaina and Sophia; father-in-law Wayne (Marilea) Campbell; brothers-in-law Warren Campbell and daughter Savannah; Jason (Glenys) Little; Neil (Janice) Little; and sister-in-law Laura Little (Nathan).
