Donald Robert Sutherland

.Donald “Don” Robert Sutherland, age 88, of Halifax, passed away peacefully with his wife Jo by his side on September 3, 2014 at .the Halifax Infirmary. Born in New Glasgow, NS, he was a son of the late Elmo and Hazel Sutherland.

Don graduated from Mount Allison University in 1949 with a degree in Civil Engineering and joined the NS Dept. of Highways right out of university. He held various positions until his retirement in 1989.A member of the Halifax Curling Club, he also enjoyed golf and participated in various bridge groups and bowling leagues. He was also an active member of the St. Peter’s Anglican Church. He especially enjoyed spending time at the Sutherland Seaside Resort in Malagash entertaining many family and friends every summer.Survived by his wife of 65 years, Georgina “Jo” (Cullen); sons, Carl and Alan; daughter-in-law, Judith; sister, Christine; grandchildren, Catherine and Sarah. Predeceased by his brothers, George and Fraser.A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at 2 pm at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Birch Cove. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 3 Dakin Drive, Halifax, B3M 2C9.He was a gentle and peaceful man who will be missed by all who knew him.
