

Ted was born in Montreal, Quebec, on January 27, 1927 and was the son of the late E. W. and Millicent (Ross) Pirie.
He was a graduate of McGill University with a science degree and served in the RCNVR. He then began his business career in the oil industry, beginning with McColl Frontenac and subsequently executive positions with Texaco and Imperial Oil ( 39 years). On retirement from the oil industry in Toronto, Ted returned to Halifax and joined Burns Fry (now BMO Nesbitt Burns) as a well-trusted and self-confident investment advisor. He was an avid golfer at Ashburn Golf Course since 1974, and an honourary member of the Halifax Curling Club. He was also very active in other sports including skiing and a player and coach of hockey. He is survived by his wife, Molly (Camp), son, Ned (Sandy Hirtle) of Kanata, Ontario and grandchildren Katelyn, Ross and Megan, daughters, Sue (Greg) Toews of Vancouver, B.C., grandchildren Sam and Sarah ; Sarah (Seaboyer) of Chilliwack B.C. He is also survived by his sister Connie Young, and several nieces, nephews and many friends and acquaintances across the country. He was predeceased by sisters Peggy Drysdale and Lorna Allsopp-Becker. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 11:00 am. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (455-0531) with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the VON.
