Elizabeth was born July 9, 1914 in Somerset England, the daughter of The Reverend Henry and Mary Horlock (nėe Laurie). She was predeceased by her brother, H. Wimburn Horlock of Gloucestershire, England, and is survived by her sister-in-law, J. Robin (nėe Tanner) and cousins.
Elizabeth was the recipient in 2002 of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for her work over many years in support of the Monarchist League of Canada.
Her lifelong commitment to the Anglican faith community (St. Paul’s and Trinity Churches in Halifax) will be remembered by all who knew of her selfless dedication to the work of the Lord both locally and through her extensive gifting to missions all over the world. For many years Elizabeth taught English as a second language to international students at Dalhousie University, a service for which she was publicly recognized. At Christmas she received hundreds of cards and notes sent by grateful former students from countries around the world. Her family would like to thank the staff of the Grandeur Assisted Living Estates (Hammonds Plains) for the quality care, kindness and friendship they provided.
A Memorial will be held at 2 p.m. in St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, Oakfield on Friday, January 8, 2016, followed by a reception in the nearby Grand Lake – Oakfield Community Hall. No flowers by request. Donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, Oakfield.
