

Born in Halifax Nova Scotia, Joyce joined the Royal Canadian Air force at age 19 where she was stationed in Lachine, Quebec. Spending many years in Montreal until 1971 where she returned to Halifax with her parents. She spent many wonderful years with her partner Charlie, until his passing in 1987. A mother of three, she worked all of her life until her retirement at age 67 from the Halifax Infirmary. Her parents Fred & Thelma (Bellefontaine) Purcell predeceased Joyce as well as her husband Douglas Smith and partner Charles McKay.
She is survived by her brother Gordon Purcell, her children Clifford, (Sandy) Ontario, Sabrena, California and Ian (Jacqueline) Halifax her Grandchildren Harrison, Ontario, Alana (Sabrina) Ontario, Rachel (Kyle), Alexandria, Alberta & Nigel, Nova Scotia.
Those who knew Joyce could not believe her zest for life and her desire to live life to its fullest. A past board member of the Saraguay House, and supporter

She passed away peacefully November 6, 2014 at home.
Joyce loved to travel, entertain, and spend time with her many friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday November 11 from 6-8 p.m at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive (455-0531) and a celebration of life will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m from J.A. Snow Funeral Home Chapel. Donations can be made in Joyce’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
