It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernie Behan on March 27, 2025, at the Dartmouth General Hospital after a brief illness. Ernie was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on February 6, 1933, and lived in Halifax for most of his life.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Udvella (Jackie) Behan (Messervey); his son, John, and John’s children, Olivia (Ross) and Angus (Courtney); his stepchildren, David Webster and Joyce Jennings (Wayne); as well as a large circle of extended family and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Teresa Behan (Power); his brothers, Marty, Frank, and Jim; his first wife, Theresa Behan (Power); his son, Edward; and his stepdaughter, Theresa Davey (Webster).
Ernie had a long and respected career with the Department of National Defence in Halifax. He was a proud and active member of Branch 26 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Truro, where he built strong and enduring friendships and connections. Known for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty, Ernie was beloved by his family and friends. He and Jackie shared a cherished group of friends in Truro, bringing warmth and laughter to those around them.
Although Ernie was born in Nova Scotia, his heart was always in Newfoundland, a place that held special meaning for him throughout his life. Ernie will be deeply missed by his family and friends in his adopted homeland of Newfoundland.
