It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest “Ernie” O’Toole, who died peacefully in Halifax on January 14th, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born in Louisburg, Ernie was raised in Sydney and spent most of his life in the Sackville/Halifax area. He was the son of Donald and Catherine O’Toole and was predeceased by brothers Vincent, Dennis, and Greg, sister Kaye, and survived by brothers Leonard and Roderick. He was the beloved husband of Doreen and a devoted father to Dennis (Amanda), Jeffrey (Shevon), Terrence (Marti) and Colleen (Mark). Ernie was also cherished by his three grandchildren Aidan, Rhiannon and Ryan who brought him immense joy and pride.
Ernie had a full life running his own successful business, Lighthouse Transport, and over the years was a diligent volunteer in the Catholic Church and with the Conservative Party both Federally and Provincially. In retirement, Ernie embraced life with enthusiasm, enjoying travels near and far, and creating lasting memories with his friends and family. He was never shy in sharing his opinion and he enjoyed nothing more than a rigorous debate over breakfast meetings with his favorite friends. His wisdom, humor, and generosity will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home located on 339 Lacewood Drive in Halifax on January 21 2025, 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Ignatius Church, Bedford Wednesday January 22 at 12:15 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.
Ernie will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
