Born January 2, 1940, in Anagance, NB. Son of Merton and Mary Smith (Rouse). Survived by his wife, Shirley Redden, daughter Cheryl (Steve) Plaza, grandsons Evan and Elliott, son Darren (Emily) Smith, three step-children, their extended families, and sister Lorna. Predeceased by his first wife Valerie, sisters Maxine and Delaney and brother Irwin.
Eugene attended Saint John High School, graduating in 1958. He went on to spend 20 years with RCMP, ending his working career with Irving, retiring in 1998.
Eugene was diagnosed with MS at the age of 60, and worked hard to maintain a normal lifestyle. wintered in Florida for many years spending time golfing, playing cards and socializing with friends. His favorite pastimes were the Blue Jays, crib and time spent on Kennebecasis Island.
