Francois was born on June 22, 1942 in Madjalaya, Lebanon, to Ibrahim and Nazira (Chediac) Harfouche. Francois moved from Lebanon at a young age, first living in Senegal for over 10 years, then relocating to Saudi Arabia, then Mexico, and finally to Canada in 1976. He settled in Nova Scotia in 1980, where he would raise his family. Along with others, he assisted with the establishment of Our Lady of Lebanon Parish and remained active in the Church and Lebanese community in Halifax. He was awarded the Order of Saint Gregory the Great by the Vatican in 1989 in recognition of his contributions to the Maronite Church in Canada.
Francois was the beloved husband of Lia (Rouhana) Harfouche for 45 years. Known for his smile and boisterous laugh, Francois had a huge heart and loved nothing more than to entertain friends and family. He was a friend to all, and was always willing to lend a hand whenever he could.
Francois is survived by his wife, Lia, sons, Guy (Wendy) and Joseph; his brother, Elie (Feefeen) Harfouche and his sister Marie (Francois) Rouhana, a number of nieces, nephews and additional family members. Francois was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Michel, Joseph, Anthony, George, and John; and sisters, Renee and Rosette.
The family gives special thanks to the staff at Parkstone Enhanced Care for the compassionate care they provided Francois in his last years.
