

June 4, 1944 – December 10, 2021. Passed away after a short stay in the VG resulting from a fall and stroke. She was the proud daughter of James Clifford (Jim) Dower of Newfoundland and Florence (Dompierre) of Halifax. She lived in Newfoundland until age 2 then grew up in the south end attending College St and St Francis elementary schools and Sacred Heart Convent. She graduated from the Maritime Secretarial College with a business degree then worked in various offices, newspapers and publishing companies. She was proud of her Newfoundland roots often told she had ‘Newfie’ traits. She loved all sports playing baseball in her adult life, took piano lessons, sang in church choirs, glee club, was in a writer’s group as she loved to write. She served on the Development & Peace Council, Aquinas Social Club, and being a devout Catholic was a proud member of the Catholic Women’s League serving on numerous executive positions. She was an excellent organizer and fundraiser and kept busy organizing school and club reunions and doing many fundraising events after becoming partially disabled as the result of a car accident in 1998. She loved children most of all.
She is survived by cousin Barb (Lund) Corbett, other cousins in Canada many in Conche, Newfoundland; godchildren Wilbur McCorry, Carmen Burke and Rick Thibault; close friends Cathy MacDonald, Mary McGuigan Baglole, Corrine Barter Ware, Ruthie MacArthur Tannous and Pat Healey Angus. She was predeceased by her devoted parents, namesake uncle, sister at heart Carol Ann (Adamore) Veith, best friend Linda (Chiasson) MacKee, the love of her life and, special friend Father Lloyd O’Neill. Many thanks to the countless friends & relatives who assisted her in her time of need.
The remains will be showing 2PM-4PM Tuesday, December 14 at J.A. Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Drive with funeral Mass 12:15pm Wednesday, December 15 at St Benedict’s Church, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax with Most Rev. Archbishop Brian Dunn officiating. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke, Hope Cottage, or the Catholic Women’s League.
