Frederick Thomas Tait Sr.

Just days short of his 74th year, this yeoman completed his last watch on 29 March 2017, surrounded by members of his loving family in his residence of White Hills Long Term Care Centre in Bedford Nova Scotia. Having retired from a lengthy 24 year career with the Royal Canadian Navy, he finally crossed the bar to add to Davy Jone’s Locker. A passionate and caring man, Poppy’s love of life and family was clearly seen in his mischievous eyes and infectious smile, which impacted all that he came across. A son of the late of Margaret (Gale) and Gilbert Tait, he comes from a large family from Hamilton, Ontario where he is survived by several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Dad’s love of the sea brought him to Canada’s East coast where he fulfilled his desire for travel and ultimately met the first of his three maritime wives Sherry (Jim). He later married Colleen (predeceased) and then Mary (predeceased). Poppy is survived by five children Rick (Pearl), Pammie (Scott), Connie (Kirby) and Lisa (Steve). He was predeceased by his youngest son, Brad (Karen). Loving memories have been made and special bonds formed with his many grandchildren: Jen (Kieran), Sam (Dan), Andrea, Brandon, Blair, Cail, Brianna, Tori (David), Lucas, Glennie, Noah and Bailey. We all would like to extend our many thanks to the White Hills staff for their great care and concern. Dad was a highly active member with the Legion and in accordance with his wishes, a celebration of his life will be held in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 160, 703 Main Street, Dartmouth, on Monday 3 April 2017 at 1400, Carol Young officiating with a reception to follow.
