George Baxter, 88 of Halifax passed away Oct 30, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born in Sheffield, England, he was the son of the late Lewis and Edith Baxter. He was a proud veteran having served in WWII as a tail gunner in the RCAF. George was the Grounds Superintendent of Camp Hill for many years and later went on to work in the family nursery and flower business. Family was the most important thing to George and was always the centre of his life, especially his six grandkids who he loved to tease, joke and cuddle with; they were the love of his life. George loved to play and watch many sports especially curling, golf, and hockey, and he and his wife were avid bowlers in their young life. They also loved to dance and party with their friends and spent every weekend and summer at their cottage in Toney River, his piece of heaven on earth. He will be forever missed by his three children, Blair (Patricia), Judy (Gary Paul), and Patty, and his grandchildren, Nicole, Jennifer, Justin Baxter, Kaitlyn, Matthew, and Nicholas Paul; brother, Dennis (Ruth) and many nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his furry grandkids, Koby, Teddy, and Lucy. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Ethel (Hines) and a son, John, in infancy. George always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, that mischievous smile, and a twinkle in his eye. Special thanks to his care workers Sue and Tanisha who took such good care of him and became part of the family; you truly were his angels. Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 6-8 pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax B3S 0E1 (902-455-0531). A celebration of life will take place, Monday, November 3, 2014, at 10:00 am in the Snow’s Memorial Chapel. Private family interment at Oakridge Memorial Gardens.
