Gerald (Gerry) F. Simister, born on May 29, 1941 in Melville, Saskatchewan, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 in Halifax.
He is survived by his partner of 34 years, Elwin (Tom) Thomas; son Michael (Calgary); daughter Jennifer (Halifax); two granddaughters, Emma and Maddie; brothers Bert (Marlene) and Bob (Edie), both of Saskatoon; and several nephews and nieces. Special thanks to his dear friends Sharon Meadows and Colleen Handley, who were beacons of joy in his final days.
His teaching career was spent entirely in the Halifax Regional School Board. He was also a talented musician, having spent 32 years as organist and choir director at United Memorial Church in Halifax, and more recently at Stairs Memorial Church in Dartmouth where a memorial service will be held on Monday, October 2 at 2pm, with a reception to follow.
Donations in his honour may be made to the VON or the paramedics of the EMS who allowed his final days to be spent outdoors, on the back deck overlooking his beloved garden.
Flowers gratefully accepted – Gerry loved them.
