

YOCHOFF, Gerald William "Bill" — Passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2010, in Parkland Clayton Park Retirement Residence, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was the only son of the late Marie Antoinnette (Penney) and William Yochoff, Sr. He spent many years in the grocery business with his father as co-owner of the International Provisional Company (IPC) Stores and later as owner/operator of Dublin Market. An avid sports-minded individual, he was involved with Halifax Minor Hockey (Life Member) for 20 years, Conrose Little League for six years and the Intermediate Softball League. He spent many years in Purcell's Cove organizing softball during the summer and hockey during the winter. Dad retired from Sport Nova Scotia in 1995 after 22 years of service. To all who knew him as a coach, manager or director, he became a lifelong friend. He will be sadly missed by children, Bill (Paula), Steven (Wayne), Dartmouth; Charles (Lucille), Walter (Donna), Halifax; Chris (Denise), Cathy Furlotte (late Kevin) and Cindy Clarke (Brian), Lower Sackville. He will be remembered by his 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Dad is also survived by his sister, Stena Jackson (Thomas); niece, Angela Butt (Alan) and family in Bulgaria. Dad was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Marion "Dot" (Higgins); daughter-in-law, Paulette Catherine (Hyland) and son-in-law, Kevin Furlotte. Dad lived his life to the fullest with a smile and always whistling a tune. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 19. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Theresa's Catholic Church (Dublin at North Street) on Saturday, February 20, at 10 a.m. with Father Charles Burke officiating. Interment to follow in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or KidSport Nova Scotia.
