Born January 13, 1929 in Kentville, she was the eldest daughter of Laura Pearl (Ogilvie) and George Archibald Nauss of New Minas.
Pauline was a graduate of Kings County Academy and Mack Business College. She was employed at the Agricultural Research Centre in Kentville, where she met Ralph. Pauline and Ralph married in 1954 at the United Church, Kentville and settled in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County as Ralph began his career with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture.
The couple settled in Bridgewater and built a home there. They had two daughters, Sheri and Kathryn. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Kentville. Pauline became deeply involved in the Guiding Program, helped with CFSA skating and worked diligently with the Canadian Red Cross, becoming provincial chairperson of the ladies program for one term after moving to Bedford.
Pauline developed a new interest in a newly formed ladies barbershop chorus in the Halifax area and suggested the name for the chorus as the "ScotianAires". Her choice of name was accepted and she became a founding member and assisted with the organization of the Chapter. She also served as an assistant to the International Board of Directors of Harmony, Inc. for two terms as well as Publicity Chairperson for the first International Convention, held in Halifax. Pauline held several offices in the ScotianAires Chapter, but enjoyed the many years of serving as Secretary the most.
Pauline and Ralph made many vacation trips to Kedge Park where they explored, both on land and by canoe, the rivers and lakes. They had a trailer in Florida which they enjoyed visiting during the Canadian winters. Later in life, a dream came true when they built their cottage on Butler Lake in Lunenburg County where the family has spent many hours of enjoyment.
Pauline is survived by her sister Kathryn Rideout (Kay), Florida. She was predeceased by two brothers; Gerald of Conneticut, USA and John of Coldbrook, NS. She was very proud of her daughters and grandchildren. Sheri lives in Truro and Kathy and her husband Bill (Yuill) reside in Lake Echo. Her granddaughter Nicole (nee Yuill) lives in Lake Echo with her husband, Daniel Mason and stepdaughter, Vera, and works with CNIB in Halifax. Her grandson, Ryan and great-grandson, Lucas live in Spruce Grove, Alberta and Ryan works in Fort MacMurray.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 28 at 1 pm at Bedford United Church. Reception to follow the service. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery following the service and reception. All are invited. Donations in memory may be made to the ScotianAires Chorus: Selina Bath, Treasurer, 5280 Rector Street, Halifax, NS B3K 2N4 [email protected]
