Reid was born on April 7, 1937 to Quene (Hustins) and John Jardine MacLean and lived his entire life in his beloved Bedford. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Jeanette (Broussard), his daughters Marianne (Stefan) Sperling, Michelle (Mike) Eddy and his son, Mark (HyunJu).
He was a proud grandfather to HwiJin, Matthew and Maxwell and great grandfather to Holbrook and Hadleigh Sperling. He leaves behind his twin sister Nancy Luscombe, Mississauga, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Sheila Broussard, and Joan Broussard (Brian Boucher), nephew Scott Luscombe and niece Rae Luscombe.
Reid grew up in Bedford where his family-owned MacLean’s Cabins and Service Station. He followed in his father’s footsteps owning and operating a Texaco station in Halifax and Fina/Petro Canada in Bedford. He retired after 20 years from Purolator Courier. After retirement, he spent 16 years keeping the children safe as a crossing guard for Bedford South School. Reid also enjoyed community service as a volunteer with the Bedford Fire Department and the Bedford Lions’ Club.
Reid was a quiet, gentle soul who loved family gatherings, antique cars, puttering in the garage, a glass of homemade wine shared with friends, Saturday morning coffee chats with his childhood buddies, fixing things and road trips. He had a special affinity for pets, nature and animals. He loved Cape Breton and never missed a chance to get there. Most importantly, he loved his family, and his home where all were welcomed.
Special thanks Dr. Amy Trottier, Hematologist and Dr. S. Soroka, Nephrologist and for the excellent care he received on the 2nd Floor of Saint Vincent’s Guest Home during his short stay. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
A celebration of life service and reception will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.
