

Poteri, John “Jack” William- it is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Jack Poteri on December 31, 2011 at the QE II Halifax Infirmary. Jack was born in Halifax on January 13, 1934. He was the son of the late Anthony and Grace (Charlton) Poteri. He was still the active General Manager of the Centennial Arena and had been for 45 years since it opened in 1967. He was also a board member of the Centennial Arena Commission, founding member of Junior High Hockey, brought roller skating to Halifax, was actively involved in the Halifax Skating Club and Halifax Minor Hockey Association. He held the first big screen boxing event in Halifax. Jack was the first person to own and operate a security and Ambulance service, Twin Cities Security. He was very proud to be a special constable for the Halifax Police Department as well as a proud sponsor for them and the Halifax Fire Department. He was an upstanding member and usher of St. Agnes Parish. Jack loved Pittsburg Penguins, skating, bowling, animals, especially his velvet and children. He would never turn a child in need away and always put others ahead of himself. He will always be remembered as “Father Christmas” ad his light display at the top of Fairview was always spectacular. Jack is survived by his loving wife Sharon (Foster); three daughters, Susan Lillico, Cathryn (Eldon) Turner, Jo-Anne (Kevin) Marchand; two sons, Stuart (Michelle), Scott (Claudia); sister, Ann (Gordon) Rowe; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Bradley, Jesse, Nicholas, Andrew and Olivia; one great granddaughter, Davrine; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Brendan and sister Bernice. Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 3, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral Service to be held Wednesday January 4, 2012 at 10am in St. Agnes Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
