Jim was born in Truro Colchester County on May 17th, 1938. He left school to join the Royal Canadian Air Force with his best friend Darryl Chisholm. After his service, Jim worked several sales jobs that took him all over our beautiful province. He made many lifelong friends during these early travel years and would reminisce about them with a smile. As he gained sales experience, he began working for Raymond Johnston Equipment until his retirement as branch manager. In retirement Jim worked for ADESA Halifax moving cars all over Nova Scotia. He loved driving and had a passion for cars since a young age.
Even with all Jim accomplished in his business career, his favorite title was grampie. He was their biggest fan and loved them all so much.
In his spare time, he enjoyed puttering around the yard, and if you ever needed something fixed Jim was your guy. He also enjoyed listening to and playing fiddle music, a good game of cards, cooking, playing, and watching golf. Golf would become his passion. Jim was a member of the Avon Valley Country Club for several decades. Jim enjoyed being outside. For many years he looked forward to his yearly hunting and fishing trips with his close friends. He was also a member of the Bedford Lions Club and the Royal Canadian Legion in Bedford.
Jim was preceded by his loving mother, Bertha Jean MacDonald.
Jim is survived by his daughter Andrea Temple (Wade) of Dartmouth; his 4 grandchildren Caitlyn (Shawn), Madeline, Hannah (Cody), Anthony ; mother of Andrea and former wife, Dorothy; son Rick MacKinnon; his brother, William (Bill) MacDonald; his sister Shirley MacLean (Bill); his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and the rest of his extended family and dear friends, especially Hunter Vanleeuwen (Arelene).
A visitation will be held January 13th, 2024, from 2-4 pm at JA Snow Funeral Home in Clayton Park. Interment will follow at a later date with immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission. The family of Jim MacDonald wishes to thank the many physicians, specialists, and nursing staff of the QE2 Hospital for their excellent care and support throughout Jim’s hospitalizations.
