She came to Canada from Glasgow in 1946 as a War Bride arriving at Pier 21. She was a stay-at-home mum for eighteen years raising her four sons until the passing of her beloved husband, Bill. She then worked as a manager at Dominion Stores for 10 years until she went into business for herself with the purchase of a building in Indian Harbour. This small business developed into the highly regarded Candleriggs Craft Shop and Dining Room. She ran this business with love, courage and fortitude looking after her customers until her retirement in 2006. In her last years she spent much time and interest in her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Jean lived her life with a sense of adventure and touched many with her generous spirit and warmth.
She will be sadly missed by her four sons Paul (Marianne), Phillip (Jan) Lawrence, all of Halifax, William (Maylene) of Vancouver, foster son Stephen Landry, Halifax; nephew Kenneth McCrum (Scotland); grandchildren Natalie, Lorie, Matthew, Erin, Adrianne, Zachary, Jessica, as well as her five great-grandchildren, Ainsley, Cole, James, Julia and Kate. As well as her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister Isa (in childhood), brother John and sister Mary.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531 on Monday, February 6th from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, February 7th at 1:00pm.
