Jean was born October 1st, 1928, in Wales and was raised in the village of Broadway, England. She was pre-deceased by her parents Edgar and Amy Poole, brothers, Archie and James, and sister, Connie.
During WWII, Doug served in the RCAF and was stationed at an air base not far from Broadway. In 1943, while attending a dance in her village, he met Jean and they fell in love. Doug returned to Canada after the war in 1945, and two years later he went back to England to marry Jean. They settled in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she was lovingly embraced by Doug’s large and extended family.
Together they created a wonderful home environment that was open to friends, neighbours, and strangers. Jean’s love for others was profound and she found great joy in serving. Her vibrant faith reached out to so many. She cared for individuals, hosted Bible studies, and significantly impacted lives.
Her family is comforted that although she is absent from the body she is present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held in Grace Chapel, 255 Ross Street, Halifax, Tuesday, April 8, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at 2 pm in Grace Chapel, with Reverend Mark Harris officiating. A reception will follow. Private family burial to take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Teen Challenge Atlantic and The Gideon’s.
