So terribly sorry to just hear of John's passing. I met him Back in the 80's through our interest in model airplanes. We had a lot of great times at the field - John built beautiful airplanes. 

In later years we would meet up every June at Margaree. Me to fly models at the airport, and John to chase the elusive Salmon.  We spent many quiet  evenings catching up...

Sandra, I am so saddened by the sudden passing of John.

John was my restorative professor when I was in second year Dental School, 1974. We worked closely together as colleagues in Cariology  II from 2002-2018. John made beautiful teaching models of dental preparations that are used today. My students are always informed that the models were made by my valued friend and respected colleague, Dr. John Cox. 
 
John generously shared with me the beauty of the Margaree and Middle River fishing pools. At The Lakes, on Lake O’Law, experiencing the beauty of the Cape Breton Fall season, 
we enjoyed good fishing tales, food, drink, and comradeship.
Memories I will cherish forever.

John Cox was one of my professors in dental school. I can say he had the respect of the entire class. I always had the impression he was set on doing the right things in the right way. He seemed to be an all round nice person, thoughtful and considerate. He will be missed. My deepest condolences to the entire famliy.

I believe I was the second dental hygienist and first full time DH that John hired in his practice. While I was a dental hygiene student I worked for John as a dental assistant for half days on Saturdays in the original practice location at the foot of First Ave. (Street?) in Bedford. 
He taught me how to do restorative dental hygiene and we worked as a team seeing children one or two days a week in the afternoons once kids were out of school.  I remember John's vision was to run a dental practice 24/7 so that folks who worked shift work or couldn't see a dentist during  the normal 9 - 5  dental work day would be able to seek care when they were available. He was one of the best dentists, technically, I ever worked with and I believe his engineering background gave him that edge. I have lived and worked in the dental field across Canada so have seen plenty of dentistry during my time in the field. 
I admired him not only as a dentist but as a good and kind human being which he was to me.
A close friend of mine who was a patient of John's  for many years sent me his obituary. 
My sincere condolences to the family John leaves behind . May his memory be a blessing !

He and Sandra decided to marry and asked us if they could have the reception in our home on the Tobique and we agreed quickly as you can imagine. They set the date for March 16 , 1985. Only problem was for Ben and I was we still hadn’t got around to getting married so we didn’t think it looked good for them to be getting married before us so we married February 16, 1985  a month before they did. Ben accompanied me to Bermuda on several dental courses and one I can remember John was there to hear an old mentor of his Dr Ron Jordan who had taught at Dal before our time. Several years ago John commented one day that he was  not sure he would ever forgive me for introducing him to Sandra his wife of 39 years. He said this with a large smile on his face. I think John found a great lady with Sandra and they shared happiness that had escaped him before their union. We met up with John and Sandra in Leigh High Acres in Florida 5-6 years ago when he drove his 3/4 ton truck hauling a rather large RV from Halifax and back. John said he put the cruise on 55MPH and drove down and back quite comfortably. I recall John having trouble buying a Toyota Supra about 1988 in Halifax so I arranged for him to purchase one from the Toyota dealer in Grand Falls. I was given explicit instructions on how to drive his new car from Perth to Halifax. John loved to take his RV to the Margaree River to salmon fish on the river. Each evening he would treat himself to some nice scotch and his live was good!! John was a wonderful friend , a real class act and an excellent and caring dentist. He was always a professional in every way. I worked in the Bedford office the summer of 1974, after my second year of dental school and learned a great deal from John  and the other docs there. His daughter Allison loved horses and they used to come visit and ride our horses that my daughter's rode. He would bring Tom Blackmore with him and we enjoyed a few bowls often. In 1984 he came up to our place for the weekend as he had a cyst removed from his hand and he was off work for 2 weeks. On Friday the day he arrived we went up river in my boat to see the Tobique River. About 7 miles up river Dr Larry Kennedy was sitting on his dock and we stopped to say hi and of course Larry invited us into his cottage for a toddy. It was the day / evening of the PerthAndover rotary club's cash draw/dance and I had already told him he had to buy a $50 ticket if he wanted free accommodation for the weekend. He had told me when he arrived earlier that his wife Joan had backed up a moving van and cleaned out their home on Shore Drive in Bedford and removed most of the furnishings.  His previous 10 or so years of married life had been unhappy for them both. So John’s next comment was I hope you have someone for me to dance with. Within 2 seconds both Larry and I said Sandra MacFarlane. I called her and told her of this really good friend and dentist who was visiting for the weekend and he needed a dance partner. She said sure and she would come with another Rotarian’s wife who was going to be going to the dance/cash draw. Well that was Friday evening and by Sunday they were both smitten with romance. John spent the week and wore his OJ Simpson football shirt everyday stopping a few times to wash it. John was 46 years old and was head over heels in love — just like a big puppy dog. Sandra - so sorry to read of John's  passing.  He was certainly the favorite dentist of a number of patients in the Bedford area.  I do hope fond memories of your years together will help you through difficult times.  To you and family members I offer my sincere condolences.

John and I met when I was a dental student at Dal in 1968. His reputation proceeded him. To us students, Dr. Cox was one of the Gods....an outstanding clinician, teacher and consummate professional who was pushing the frontiers of the profession. Upon graduation I and my classmate , Drew Stewart were asked to partner John and Dr Bhardwaj in their Bedford practice. We could not believe our good fortune.  John and I practiced together and also taught at Dal for the balance of his career. He lived up to his reputation and more. I found that whatever John undertook he gave 100%. Be it the practice , family life, his hobbies such and fishing, fly tying , building and flying radio aircraft, designing and building three homes, John gave his all. He was adored by his staff, respected by patients and colleagues. He was a hero to the challenged community for the hospital based dentistry he championed. For me John Cox was a respected and valued friend, partner and colleague. It was a pleasure and an honour.

Sandra, I was sorry to hear of your husband's passing.  I wish for you peace and many good memories.

John was my teacher in dental school and he was an exceptional clinician .  He did fantastic dental work and was so incredibly skilled .

I offer my condolences after reading the obituary for John. He was Doctor Cox to me for several years!  He recognized me when we met on the street!  I did not know him away from the Dental Office until that day.  What a great man!
