Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia he was the son of John Aloysius and Mary Helen Martin (MacKinnon). A proud Haligonian, he travelled to every corner of Nova Scotia giving tours around the “greatest place in the world”. He worked for Royal Trust as the Atlantic Regional Mortgage Loan Manager for 35 years, was a proud lifetime member of Mayflower Curling Club and a sport and horse racing enthusiast.
Survived by daughter, Dr. Karen Smith, D.C. (Andy); son, John Martin, CPA, CA (Ange) and sisters, Helen Doucette of Boston and Mary Wolicky of Ottawa. “Poppie’s” greatest joys were his children with Shirley Martin (Chambers) and his grandchildren, Sadie and Violet Smith, and Lucy the dog. Funeral service followed by reception will be held Saturday December 20, 2014 at 3:00 pm both in J.A. Snow’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
