It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father on November 1, 2019. His long struggle with leukaemia has finally ended. Born, March 12, 1941, he was the son of the late John Ward Lutes and Bessie Laura (Alcox) of Lakeville, NB. John and his wife Carolyn built their home and raised their family in Lower Sackville, NS. Their home was always a place where everyone was welcome. John worked for the Department of National Defense in the Halifax Dockyard as an electrical engineer in quality control. He enjoyed gardening, was an avid hunter, raised hunting dogs, was a HAM radio operator, loved to tease, and had a special sense of humour. He was a dedicated husband and loving father and grandfather. John was a role model for all, often sharing life lessons and skills through his wisdom and advice for which he will be sorely missed. Special thanks to Dr. Darryl White, all the nurses and staff at the 4th floor Medical Day unit of the Dixon Center for their kindness and dedication over the last seven years. John is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Cummings), son Peter (Donna), daughters, Nancy, Laurelea (Joel), and Deborah (Victor), grandchildren, Justin (Shannon), Samantha (Joe), Bruce, Katherine, and Emma, great grandchildren Madeline and Jaxon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the (4th floor Med-Day unit of the Dixon Center - QEII Health Sciences Center). Visitation will be held at Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm on Tuesday, November 5th with a Celebration of Life service on Wednesday, November 6th at 10am. The committal service will follow at 2pm at Leamington Cemetery, Cumberland County.
