NICHOLSON, John “Don” - 62, of Halifax N.S., passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2010. Born in Fredericton Junction, N.B., he was the son of the late Willard Nicholson and the late Margaret Nicholson (MacDonald). After suffering a massive stroke March 5th, he was diagnosed with Cancer in early August, and fought a courageous battle. Before Don retired, he owned a grocery and flower market in Toronto, then he relocated to Halifax. He also had a love for sailing and was so proud to be the owner of his own sailboat. Don worked at Biggs and Little’s (toy shop) at the IWK as a volunteer (for the last 5 years). He was recently married on September 4th (during Hurricane Earl) to the love of his life, Claudia. They were surrounded by close friends and family, a very intimate gathering. What always seemed to bring a smile to his face were his grandchildren Mackenzie “Mac” and Mya. Don was a very loving, caring, patient, and strong man. A special thanks to 8.1 at the QEII, Nova Scotia Rehab, Palliative Care, and VON. He was a great friend to all who knew him. Don is survived by his wife, Claudia, and their four children, daughter Sarah Nicholson, (step) Jennifer Demmings (Richard), Andrew Woodill (Calgary) and Johnathan Woodill (Calgary), his four sisters, Carolyn, Elizabeth, Janice and Joan, all of Halifax; his two nieces Lori Shimoon (Carlo), Bedford, and Andrea Cameron Brown (Scott), B.C.; his nephews, Gabriel, Jacob, and Dahven, Halifax, and his three (step) grandchildren Mackenzie, Mya and Paige (Calgary). Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax on Monday, October 11th from 2-4 PM. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, October 12th at 10am in the funeral home chapel. In lieu flowers donations may be made to the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation and the IWK.
