

MCMAHON, JOHNSTON ALSENAS "JACK" age 90, Halifax, passed away peacefully January 2, 2014, at the Veteran's Memorial, QEII. Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Jack was the son of the late Harold and Sybil (DeLong) McMahon. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1941-1947 and was a veteran of the Second World War. Following the war he worked with the DND Fire Services where he retired at the age of 55. After retirement, he and Ruth enjoyed years of golfing and travelling to their home in Florida. In his younger years, Jack was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the Atlantic Beagle Club in Shad Bay and loved being in the woods hunting and fishing. He was a member of two Royal Canadian Legions. He is survived by his longtime companion Ruth (Mitchell); sons Daniel (Barb) and Donald; daughters, Jacqueline (Robert) Dobson, Elizabeth (Lynn) Otter, Catherine (David) Moore, Patricia (Raymond) MacDonald, Denise (Gary) Rankin; sister, Frances (Harris) Oakville, ON and many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie (Buchanan); daughter, Nancy (Buck); brother, Joseph; sister, Freda; grandson, Danny and great granddaughter, Brooklynn. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. A very warm and special thank you to the doctors, nurses, caregivers and other staff at 4East VMB. Thank you to Rev.
