

Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Lillian Claire (Hemsworth) Vaughan.
Joyce attended the Halifax Ladies College followed by Maritime Pharmacy College, Dalhousie University, completing a degree in Pharmacy. Joyce worked as a pharmacist for over 50 years in Halifax including Lorne Pharmacy, Scotia Drug Centre, and for many years with Shoppers Drug Mart. Joyce was also active in the churches that she attended, involved with Sunday School, Choirs, and Music, including West End Baptist Church, and Bethany United Church. Joyce had a wonderful sense of genuine kindness and she shared this with many people throughout her life. She also had an uncanny memory and was able to retrieve encyclopedic knowledge of medicines instantly. Her unwavering faith and commitment to Christ kept her strong and grounded throughout her years.
Joyce is survived by her husband Richard (Dick), her children, Richard, Shawn (Ann Bradley), and Catherine (Savage), and her grandchildren, Liam, Madeline, and Sophie. Joyce is predeceased by her children Ralph and Julia, her sister Audrey Seagram, and her brother Ralph Vaughan. Joyce had a great affection for her cat Ophelia.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place under the care of JA Snows Funeral Home. Visitation will take place on Friday October 14th 6:30 – 8:30 PM, Bethany United Church-MacKinnon Chapel, and a funeral will be held on Saturday October 15th at 2:00 PM at Bethany United Church, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethany United Church.
