It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my cherished mother, Kathleen Patricia “Pat” Richardson, who passed away peacefully at Parkland at the Gardens on June 21, 2025, at the age of 96 years young. Born March 30,1929 in New Glasgow Nova Scotia, Pat was the daughter of Roderick A. MacGregor and Marion Webster MacGregor. Her siblings were her elder sister Marjorie Jean (Cherry) MacGregor Dohan and younger brother James D. MacGregor, both deceased.
Pat’s childhood was spent in her family home on George Street in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. She graduated from Branksome Hall in 1947. She continued her education at McGill University, graduating in 1950 with her BSc in Home Economics and then furthered her studies at Dalhousie University, graduating with her B.Ed. in 1966. After graduating from McGill, she taught elementary children at a Montreal Protestant school. Her greatest joy was working with children, social work, and nutrition. She loved to travel and went on an extensive trip to the British Isles, Scandinavia, and several European countries. Pat lived several years in Britain and Ireland just after World War II.
Pat is survived by her daughter Sarah (Mark Collins), stepchildren Tyler (Alexis Carr), Susan (David Green), George (Kelley), grandchildren Jessica Richardson, Brett Richardson (Lauren), Katie Richardson (Travis), Laura Schinbein (Dustin), Sydney Richardson-Carr (David), Hannah and Sam Richardson, Jack and Sierra Collins and seven great grandchildren.
Patricia married her second husband, Dr. Thomas E. Richardson D.Eng(H) in March of 1968. They spent over 40+ years in Charlottetown and later retired to their home in New London, Prince Edward Island.
Pat, with her beloved Thomas by her side, lived an active, fulfilling lifestyle for 58 years. While both were in their 80’s, they enjoyed skiing at Brookvale, Squaw Mountain, Sugarloaf and White Mountain USA. They spent many hours cruising on their boat “TomKat II” and later “TomKat III” around the rivers and waters of Prince Edward Island as well as trips to Pat’s family cottage at Rustico, outside of Pictou Nova Scotia. They also enjoyed picnics to Pictou Island with cottage friends, which were always great adventures. Having a weekly golfing game was a highlight for them on the many courses on Prince Edward Island.
In later years, they enjoyed the winter months at their condo in Sarasota, Florida. During their time there, they enjoyed the Florida weather, cruises to the Caribbean, taking dance classes, playing golf, tennis, and entertaining friends.
Pat loved nature and the beauty that surrounded her. She was an avid pottery enthusiast for many years before she became an award-winning watercolor artist. She continued her love for painting well into her 90’s, always producing art gallery quality. In addition to her other interests, she also enjoyed playing bridge. Patricia was an avid dog lover, with many fur-babies by her side over the years.
Patricia and Thomas lived for many years in their Halifax condo before spending their final years at Parkland at the Gardens.
Per Patricia’s request, there will be no visitation nor funeral service. I would like to thank Tanisia from Parkland for her extra effort and the nurses who cared for her in her last days.
