
BENDELIER, Kenneth (Ken) Parker, 75, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away in the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, on February 17, 2011. Ken was born December 11, 1935, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Howard and Florence (Thomas) Bendelier. Ken is survived by his children, Ken (Susan) Bendelier, Linda (Greg) Smith, and Kathleen (Peter) Kelava; his grandchildren Robert, Nicholas, Benjamin, Lauren, Jona, Niko, and Logan; his sisters Peggy (Bob) Johnson and Patsy (Mike Ratcliffe) Bendelier; his sister-in-law Diane (George) Bendelier; and his nieces and nephews. Ken is predeceased by his wife, Betsy (MacDonald); his father, Howard, and his mother, Florence; his brothers Johnny (Thomas) and George; and his grandson, Matthew Gregory. Ken was an extremely intelligent, insightful, and accomplished man. He was educated at Queen Elizabeth High School, Saint Mary’s University (Bachelor of Commerce), and The Maritime School of Social Work (Masters in Social Work). Ken’s notable occupational roles include Head Probation Officer with the Province of Nova Scotia, Dean of Students at Saint Mary’s University, and Commissioner of the Nova Scotia Red Cross. Ken was also a fantastic athlete, with many accomplishments in football, baseball, volleyball, basketball, and track & field; in high school, university, and the community. Ken was uncomplicated and direct, with a mastery of engaging with others with empathy and practicality. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass to celebrate Ken’s life will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011 @ 10:30 am at Saint Benedict’s Parish @45 Radcliffe Drive in Halifax, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery @ 33 Old Sackville Road, Lower Sackville, will occur after the reception.
